Late in the second half of a scoreless game, the Cougars’ nimble-footed Alexis snuck a shot past the Sirk FC goalie to secure their first win of the new season. Well-placed passes, good communication, and tight formations – not to mention a handful of fortuitous calls by the referee – allowed the formerly loss-plagued Cougars the opportunity to shed their Bad News Bears persona. At least for the afternoon.
After the game, new fans approached the team to offer congratulations and give advice. Gaga, and rightly so, over midfield sensations Annie and Leslie, the newest Team Cougar groupies told the players they’d be sure to return next Sunday to root the team on.
